Heartland Classroom Resources

Located at Sunrise Middle School - Room 106
4611 Avenue N
Kearney, Nebraska 68847
308-698-8167

Heartland Classroom Resources provides materials and services to Nebraska School personnel. The various services offered are provided at no charge to employees of Kearney Public Schools (for direct school-related projects) and at a nominal fee to cover materials to other educators.

Laminating Services
Laminating is available to Kearney Public Schools staff members at no charge for items used in the classroom. Laminating bags are picked up and delivered at each building through the regular route of the district mail service. There is a two day turn-around for laminated materials to be returned. Laminating is also provided for school-related organizations (i.e. PTO, Boosters, KPS Foundation) that are directly related to schools and school activities for a fee of 30 per foot.

Laminating Guidelines
The purpose of the Kearney Public Schools laminating program is to preserve materials that are subject to "heavy-wear" situations (i.e. items handled frequently by many students) or that will be used for several years. Things to remember about preparing/selecting items to be laminated:

Try to keep items as flat as possible. Even with perfectly flat items, some wrinkling can occur. Wrinkling is almost inevitable when items to be laminated are bent or wrinkled upon arrival. Also, thin paper (such as mural paper or tissue paper) is much more likely to wrinkle during the laminating process than thicker (copy paper or thicker). Items thicker than poster board do not seal well, and should not be laminated.

To ensure that items seal properly on both sides, they should be no wider than 26 1/2". If an item is too wide, it will be returned to the sender to be cut to fit the 26 1/2" limitation.

Please do not use staples to secure papers to construction paper, tag board, etc. Staples can seriously damage the laminating machines, and the items will be returned unlaminated to the sender. Also, do not send items with glitter.

Firmly attach a colored laminating tag with your name, school, number of pieces being sent, and a description of how the items will be used (so we can determine how they fit the districts laminating guidelines). If there are questions concerning the items, the sender will be contacted by email. Filling in the Number of Pieces on the tag helps when items get loose in the bottom of the laminating bag and we have to determine which teacher sent them.

Please make sure your items are securely clipped together before they are placed in the bag. You may have to use several paper clips or an envelope to keep them from falling apart in the bag and getting mixed up with another teachers items.

All items sent in on a given day are laminated if at all possible. If you need to have many items laminated, please send them in several days in advance and let us know when you need them.
